Julie Johnson has 15 years leadership experience in the education sector and local government. She has a strong background in talent acquisition and retention, systems improvement, and operational excellence. Julie is able to integrate the organization’s vision and values into daily work and adapts quickly to new challenges, remains solutions-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Most recently, Julie was the Chief of Talent and Culture for the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), the fastest improving school district in the country, until leaving the district after over a decade. As Chief, she oversaw the hiring of hundreds of teachers annually and increased compliance with local credentialing regulations 59% in one year. Prior to serving as Chief of Talent and Culture, Julie served as Chief of Staff for three successive DCPS Chief Operating Officers. In that role, she worked with numerous teams – from business operations to security to food service and more – to identify strengths and areas where improvement was needed. She then worked in close collaboration with other leaders to develop and implement the strategic management, budget, and process improvements needed for improved outcomes.
Julie has a Masters in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Arizona State University. She grew up in a small town in Ohio and now resides in Washington, DC with her husband and daughter. They can frequently be found visiting local parks, libraries, and playgrounds.
