Katie has more than 15 years experience as a leader and reformer in education and social impact sectors. Her passions lie in leadership development/support, building and sustaining inclusive practices and educational equity. Katie has served as an educational consultant for the Denver Public School’s Board of Education and the Colorado Department of Education to provide analysis and recommendations for improving outcomes for underserved scholars. She was also a founding, turnaround Principal for a public school in Denver, Colorado. Previously ranked as one of the poorest performing schools in Colorado, under her leadership, the school advanced from Red to Green in year one and was named a “Center for Excellence” by the Colorado Department of Education.
Katie’s professional experiences also include serving as a founding Site Manager for TNTP, in which she acted as a liaison between the San Antonio Independent Schools District’s Superintendent’s office, Teach For America and TNTP to establish a rigorous, alternative teacher certification program. She has also served as an Assistant Principal of Instruction, an Advisor and Curriculum Author for Teach For America, and a department chair and Social Studies teacher. In each of these roles, Katie developed and refined skills in strategic planning, distributive leadership and leading mission-driven teams to attain ambitious goals. She earned her B.A. in Political Science & Gender Studies from N.C. State University, an M.A. in Secondary Education from New York University and completed Relay Graduate School’s National Principals Academy Fellowship.
When Katie is not working, she’s chasing after her three children in Denver, Colorado.
